Why I Hand‑Edit Every Newborn Image (And Never Rely on Presets Alone)

If you’ve watched my recent video, you saw something I don’t usually show in real time: me carefully editing one single newborn image from start to finish.

Not a batch. Not a quick click-and-export.

One image. One tiny human. A lot of intention.

Newborn Photography Is Delicate — and Editing Should Be Too

Newborn skin is unlike anything else. It can be blotchy, flaky, red, yellow, or all of the above — sometimes in the same square inch. Their fingers and toes are tiny, their features are soft, and their expressions are subtle.

That’s why newborn editing isn’t about speed — it’s about precision.

When I edit a newborn image, I’m constantly asking myself:

  • Does this still look like your baby?
  • Is the skin smooth without looking plastic?
  • Are the tones natural and true-to-life?
  • Does this image feel calm, warm, and timeless?

Presets Are Tools — Not a Magic Button

Here’s the honest truth: presets can be helpful.

But a preset is just a starting point, not a finished product.

Every baby is different. Every session has different lighting, skin tones, and color casts. If I slapped the same preset on every image and called it a day, your gallery would lose what makes it yours.

That’s why I:

  • Adjust skin tones by hand
  • Gently even out redness and blotchiness
  • Clean up flakes, scratches, and temporary marks
  • Refine light and shadows so baby stays the focus

Nothing is rushed. Nothing is automated.

Why I Took the Time to Show This on Video

I made this video because I want my clients (and future clients) to understand what happens after your session.

Your images aren’t just uploaded, filtered, and sent.

They’re:

  • Individually evaluated
  • Edited with intention
  • Hand-finished with care

That time matters. And it’s part of what you’re investing in when you choose a professional newborn photographer.

One Image Can Take More Time Than You Think

Editing a single newborn image can take anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes — sometimes longer — depending on the baby’s skin, lighting, and pose.

And that’s okay.

Because these photos aren’t just for today. They’re for:

  • Baby books
  • Wall art
  • Graduation parties
  • One day being looked at by your grown child

Fast Turnarounds vs. Thoughtful Editing

You may see some photographers promise huge galleries with a super fast turnaround time — and for some families, that works.

But it’s worth asking: what are you missing out on?

When speed and quantity are the priority, editing often becomes automated. Presets get slapped on, images get batch-processed, and there’s little time to carefully refine skin tones, soften transitions, or perfect the tiny details that make newborn photos feel polished and timeless.

I choose a different approach.

I focus on quality over quantity, intention over speed, and craftsmanship over convenience. That means fewer images edited more carefully — images that hold up years from now, not just ones that look good at a quick glance.

Because these aren’t just photos. They’re the first visual story of your baby’s life — and that story deserves time.

My Promise to Every Newborn Family

I will never rush your images. I will never treat your baby like a preset. I will never sacrifice quality for speed.

Every newborn I photograph deserves the same level of care — in the studio and behind the screen.

If you watched the video, thank you for trusting me with your baby’s first portraits. And if you’re considering a newborn session, know this:

✨ Your images will be edited with the same love, patience, and attention I’d want for my own family.
